Tobey: I like the whole atmosphere of the Daily Bugle. It’s to me, you know, high energy, comic-booky. It’s great. It brings that dimension into the movie.

Sam always likes to ratchet up the torture on his actors, and everybody to certain degree. So if there is anybody going to get the experience to poke one of his actors, he always jumps in there.

Tobey: I remember being on set and us doing that scene, and you just kept going ”alright now, I want you to step on his hand when his hand is under the book.” I tried to hold the book in a way that wouldn’t crunch my knuckles on the concrete but it hurt after a while. Especially because you like to do a lot of takes when I am being punished. Usually you are Not doing a lot of takes, but for some reasons, when I am being physically punished, you do a lot of takes.

I mean, here are the three important relationships to him, and there you see the distance between him and Harry, and the distance between him and aunt May, and I think it’s showing really a sad and lonely existence for him. You know, he’s doing this heroic, altruistic thing of sacrificing himself for the good of people and society, and yet he can’t even keep up with his relationships with his aunt, hisfriend or, of course, the girl he’s, the way I say it is he’s achingly in love with.

Sam: I like that we are trying to re-create it, but two years later, how things have changed. To contrast that earlier scene, vs. whereyou are now, where you both are now.

Sam: she’s so beautiful and the camera does love that girl. Whenever you photograph her, it’s the dream for Bill Pope or any cinematographer, for having her in front of the lens.
