Madison Keys, who last year cause a big surprise in the tournament by knocking out Li Na, chatted exclusively with Madrid-Open.com about her thoughts on the imminent competition.

Q:What is it you like about Serena?
She’s such a fierce competitor, she’s absolutely unbelievable and she’s been number 1 for so long, she’s done such amazing things for the sport and to be able to be so committed to the sport for so long is truly amazing.

Q:You reached your highest position in the WTA ranking last year. How has your game improved since then?
I’ve definitely improved a lot of things; getting my serve a little bit more consistent, moving better and just playing points more intelligently.

I think there are so many right now, there’s Vekic, Bencic, Bouchard… there are so many right now who could all cause upsets.
