1、
“I’m Mary Lennox. Mr.Craven is my uncle.”
“He’s my father! I’m Colin Craven.”
“Your father!” gasped Mary, “No one ever told me he had a child. Why didn’t they?”
“They didn’t dare tell you because you’d have wanted to see me. I don’t let anyone see me, ever!”
“Why?” asked Mary, puzzled.
“Because I’m always sick and I’ll probably die soon, or if I live I’ll be a hunchback.”
“Don’t you let your father see you?”
“Yes, but he usually comes when I’m sleeping. He doesn’t want to see me because my mother died when I was born. I’ve overheard people saying he hates me. Once, I had to wear an iron brace to keep my back straight and that made people stare at me and made them take the brace off. He told them what I need was to be outdoors. But I hate the fresh air and won’t go.”
2、
When the lamb had finished its bottle and was sound asleep on Colin’s lap, all three children began looking at the pictures in the garden books. As Dickon named those flowers that Colin would be seeing in the Secret Garden , the boy’s excitement grew.
“I’m going to see the snapdragons!” he shouted. “I’m going to see the columbines! I’m going to see them all! I’m going to be alive to see them all!”
