海座星是一类已灭绝的棘皮动物，生存于寒武纪早期至石炭纪。无茎（Column），身体扁平，球形或圆柱形，典型的在壳体上具有五条直的或弯曲的由口中伸出来食物沟。
海座星纲（Edrioasteroidea） 海座星纲（Edrioasteroidea），壳球形，腹面具柔软皮膜盘司固着。骨板排列规则，背腹面间具边缘板。步带自口部伸出，向外延伸并向左右扭曲，口及肛孔均位于壳的背面。早寒武世至中石岩世，35属，分布于北美及欧洲。

这类动物的身体结构很简单:一个主体部分(theca)，由许多小板组成，外围有一圈相连的骨片，(在某些物种中)还有一个带柄的区域，用于伸展和收缩。它的主要特征是在体壁上有五条臂，或称步肢，从中央嘴部向外辐射，呈五辐射对称。它可以弯曲或伸直，也可以沿同一方向甚至不同步足不同方向转动。

区别不同的海座星主要通过观察其步足的弯曲方式和表面纹路。

海座星营无柄生活，但它们通常会利用自身的骨片将自己附着在坚硬物体上，例如岩石或贝类。很多发现的化石都有附着痕迹
